BIO: I'm Lara Sweeney KF5MZE.  I was part of a late CB crowd (family and friends, profane but not trashy) in the '80s-early '90s.  I've been exposed to HAM radio since I met my now-husband in 1999.

I was drawn to the HAM world for its humor and camaraderie, as well as its Geek Factor.

After meeting the principal Unusual Suspects members, they asked me when I was going to get my license and I thought, you know what, that is a good idea.  So I studied for a couple hours and passed my Technician license in October 2011.

I feel right at home with this group.  It's a G/PG-rated version of what I had growing up, which is great.  I'm in it mostly for the local/regional social factor, so I've never hung out on anything but local bands, but the local folks provide plenty of fulfillment and laughs.

We have no home station to speak of, but we have a nice mobile setup.  I'll try to submit pictures sometime soon.

One of my favorite HAM radio-related activities right now is actually helping out when with antenna projects and peoples' houses with the group.  I'll be studying for my General so I can catch up with others and play on HF.  I'm trying to get my parents, sister, and good friend into the hobby as well.

Other stuff: I'm into All Things Texas, guns, dualie pickup trucks, cats, dogs, herbal medicine, Libertarianism, history, Hunter-gatherer food diet, Apple computers, music (40+ genres from around the world), reading, research, chocolate, learning about off-the-grid survivalism, the study of economics, and of course, bowling.

It's a privilege to be part of this great hobby and group  :)
